Glen Oaks School Honored at Governor’s Mansion Blue Ribbon Ceremony

On Wednesday evening, March 4, 2026, leaders from Glen Oaks Elementary School joined a select group of educators at the Illinois Governor’s Mansion to be formally recognized as Illinois Blue Ribbon Schools.

Principal Mrs. Farah Daoud, Teacher Ms. Jen Stefl, and North Palos District 117 Superintendent Dr. Christine Droba traveled to the capital to represent Glen Oaks School. The school was one of only 28 institutions statewide—comprising 15 public and 13 non-public schools—to receive this prestigious designation for exemplary academic performance.

The ceremony marked a milestone in Illinois education. Following the dissolution of the federal National Blue Ribbon program in August 2025, Governor J.B. Pritzker established the Illinois Governor’s Blue Ribbon School Award to ensure that the state’s highest-achieving schools continued to receive the recognition they deserve.

During his address to the 28 awardees, Governor Pritzker emphasized the importance of maintaining high standards:

"Twenty-eight outstanding schools are represented here tonight, recognized for the prestigious distinction that’s based upon the rigorous criteria…You have met and exceeded those really high standards. Each and every day you come to school eager to support our students, their safety, their growth, and their well-being."

Glen Oaks’ recognition this fall is a testament to the school's culture of excellence. For Glen Oaks, this award is more than just a banner; it represents the tireless collaboration between staff, students, and families in Hickory Hills. This is the third time Glen Oaks has earned a Blue Ribbon distinction, adding to North Palos School District 117’s reputation as a leader in Illinois education.
